Apple 'Black Friday' Deals Are Real [pic]

With Black Friday only hours away, gadget freaks everywhere are speculating about what deals Apple might offer this year. A few days ago, Boy Genius Report got their hands on some leaked flyers detailing Apple's Black Friday deals but no one knew if these ads were real or Photoshopped.

But now that it's already Friday on the other side of the world, we now know that the deals are real. According to CultOfMac.com, Apple Australia has gone live with the company’s Black Friday savings — and the same deals are likely to be offered elsewhere, including the U.S.

Some of the discounts include:

So after you've recovered from gorging yourself on Thanksgiving turkey, drag the family over to your closest Apple Store and some money on your holiday shopping [via Boy Genius Report & Cult Of Mac].

Apple Job Offer [pic]

Fresh off the heels of our story about a Macintosh designer who quit via a screenshot, we have a story about someone getting hired.

The photo above is what a job offer packet from Apple looks like. We're not sure who originally posted the image, but congratulations to whoever you are. Good luck at the new job and if you need a clever way to quit, take a look at this: Someone quit today. We found this on his desktop. [Gizmodo via Fake Steve]

Someone quit today. We found this on his desktop [pic]

.

We found this screengrab on Reddit this morning. Apparently the person who quit was unhappy with his job and chose to inform the company via a custom Macintosh OS X application.

Assumetehposition, a former co-worker of the guy who quit, submitted the screengrab to Reddit and posted the following explanation in the comments thread.

"He believed he was in a temp-to-hire position, and after three months of extra hours and butt-kissing, turns out it's just a temp position. He was a good worker too. I'd have recommended him. Too bad he burned his bridges... Obviously he had contemplated quitting long enough to make this thing, but still refused to speak to anyone about his feelings. Ironically, he complained about the 'divas' at his last job."

What do you think? Diva designer? Passive-aggressive? Regardless of what really happened, we still think it's a pretty clever way to quit.

Wild Turkeys Attack NJ Kids [video]

With Thanksgiving only days away, it looks like some wild turkeys in suburban New Jersey decided to launch a preemptive strike.

"Mommy!!!!!! The turkey stole my bike!"

The turkeys in this video were caught on camera terrorizing a New Jersey neighborhood. At one point in the video, the mother grabs her kids from the attacking turkeys and runs into oncoming traffic. Maybe next time she should try throwing apples at the turkeys.

Who knew turkeys could be so dangerous. If you're a parent in N.J., then you might want to keep the kids indoors until after Thanksgiving.

1991 National Beard and Mustache Competition [video]

The video below is from the 1991 National Beard and Moustache Championship. You probably wouldn't expect a crowd to go completely wild at facial hair competition, but you'll get way more than you expected if you stick around for the 2nd guy [video].

So is the video real? From the beginning, we had our suspicions. The clip's grainy video noise is almost too perfect. So we contacted an expert.

"I suspect it's not real," said Phil Olsen, founder of the website Beard Team USA.

"The first time I saw the video was today... I don't recognize any of the people in the video. Nor had I ever heard of the National Beard and Moustache Championship held in Tacoma in 1991 until now. If there was such an event in Tacoma in 1991, I am surprised I had not heard of it before."

Alas, the beard cage is most likely a fake. But just in case you get some hairy inspiration, here's a menu of moustache styles:

NASA App for iPhone

Good news space nerds. NASA just released an app for the iPhone and iPod Touch. The application is available free of charge in the iTunes App Store.

The new NASA app collects, customizes and delivers an extensive selection of dynamically updated information, images and videos from various online NASA sources. It will also deliver a wealth of information, videos, images and news updates about future NASA missions.

Here's a quote from the official press released posted on the U.S. Air Force's website:

"Making NASA more accessible to the public is a high priority for the agency," said Gale Allen, director of Strategic Integration and Management for NASA's Exploration Systems Mission Directorate in Washington. "Tools like this allow us to provide users easy access to NASA information and progress at a fast pace."

The NASA App also allows users to track the current positions of the International Space Station and other spacecraft currently orbiting Earth in three views: a map with borders and labels, visible satellite imagery, or satellite overlaid with country borders and labels.

For more information about NASA's iPhone application, visit: http://www.nasa.gov/iphone or you can download the app from the iTunes Store here.

Captain Kirk is Climbing a Mountain [video]

Captain Kirk is climbing a mountain. Why is he climbing a mountain? To hug it? Envelop it? Challange it? Is he in love with the mountain?

Does he want to make love to the mountain? Yes, he probably does.

The video below is a remix of some raw promotional video that Willam Shatner did for 1989's Star Trek 5: The Final Frontier. In the video, Shatner starts rambling and attempting to apply a deeper meaning to his character climbing a mountain in the film. Captain Kirk is climbing a mountain. Why is he climbing a mountain? Actually, that's a really good question.

Nintendo and Sony Suffer Losses

Looks like the bad economy is now eating into the traditionally resilient home video game industry. So far this month, both Nintendo and Sony have announced losses.

Sales of Nintendo's popular Wii console dropped down 43% during the 2nd and 3rd quarter this year. In an effort to help boost holiday sales, Nintendo has reduced the cost of the Wii from $249 to $199.

Nintendo's rival, Sony, is also feeling the bite of a bad economy. Sony reported a Q2 net loss of $292 million and their overall sales are down by 20%. However, Sony feels that sales of movies and TV shows on their new PSP Go personal WiFi gaming device will help grow revenues from both content and hardware sales.

Drunk Driver Calls Cops on Herself [video]

911 operators definitely get their fair share of calls from people observing drunk drivers on the road. However, it's not very often that a drunk driver calls 911 on them self.

In the 911 call [video], a Wisconsin woman named Mary Strey, called 911 and wanted to report a drunken driver. When the 911 dispatcher asked if she was behind the suspect vehicle, she replied "I am them."

She then followed the dispatcher's advice to pull over and turn on her flashers, telling him she had been "drinking all night long."

Auto Upload Dreamweaver Files

Do you use Adobe Dreamweaver to create and design websites? Is Dreamweaver no longer automatically uploading all dependent files when you save a page? We use Adobe Dreamweaver to create methodshop.com and this always seems to trip us up everyone couple years or so.

Chances are you probably were messing around with your Dreamweaver Preferences or accidentally checked the "Don't Ask Me Again" check during the "putting" process.

PROBLEM: Dreamweaver fails to prompt for including dependent files when putting

SOLUTION: This is an easy fix. If you want to be prompted to upload dependent files, then you'll need to turn on the "Prompt on Put/Check In" preference. Just follow the directions below:

Requirements:

1. Choose Edit > Preferences.
2. Select the Site category.
3. Under Dependent Files, check Prompt on Put/Check In.
